Cam Belt Change

have paid a visit to the local ford stealers to enquire about info on changing the timing belt,after searching on here and contacting nikpv for info into this,they have told me it is 40000 miles,now DO I TAKE THIS AS GOSPEL?as there seems to so much confusion on this topic between the 40k and 60k intervals.

4 years is getting on a bit, IMHO. I'd change it.

i was told that,i do have some history with it,from another ford dealer who i will phone and ask if they have done a change,apparently your local ford dealer will only have work you instruct on there computer but any warranty work will be on there national data base,but i also have history from when it was in germany alas this is in german i keep meaning to take it into work to be deciphered :blink:

i enquired because the car has now done 65k,so im hopeing that it was changed at the 40k interval :P

Was in the same position as you : Saved me a potential fortune Just change it, perhaps ask VW how much as believe it or not they are cheaper than ford for rather a lot of things for the Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra!

Hi, can't remember where I saw it, might even have been on here, BUT if it was manufactured after a certain month (May/June 2003 comes to mind) the schedule for getting cam belts changed went from 40k to 60K. Or even ask your local Ford stealer ;) Edited November 5, 2007 by Triple Trouble

I would use the rough guide of 60k for the MK1's and 40k for the MK2's.

 

Balance the cost of the change against the damage.

well it pays to use your brain once in a while :P i had some history from HENDY FORD MARCHWOOD down in Southampton and gave them a call,EXTREMELY HELPFUL apparently they had carried out a full service on the car at approx 52k AND THE TIMING BELT WAS CHANGED along with the followers etc,they had it all on there computers and they are sending me a print out of the things that have been done to the car,thats handy then saved me the expense of having it changed :D the chap said my version needed it changed every 60k amazing eastbourne ford said 40k,anyhow saved me a load of dosh so im a happy bunny :o.

Sh1t..knew there was something needing changing on the veccy soon...last changed at 52k miles, she is now on umm...104k miles.Blimey....done 6k miles in 5 months.oops.

THANKS AND WELL DONE TO CUSTOMER SERVICES AT MARCHWOOD(HENDY FORD)

today recived the printout on the cam belt change

full service was carried out(60,000 mile)cam belt and tensioner various filters and oil change

carried this out when the car was showing 57,047 miles,then the person sold the car and i bought it with iro 57,500 miles,so im a happy chappy :14:

Today i booked the Ally in for a belt change.

 

The cars only done 30k but is now 4 years old.

 

Im sure it would go for a long time yet but what if it didnt.

I hadnt used the garage before but it came recomended to me.

 

Dropped the car off last night so they could start on it first thing this morning.

 

At 10.20am my mobile rings and its the garage calling to say its all finished.

 

So going by that service i will use them again

 

As far as the cost goes it was never going to be a cheap job

 

They charged

 

3 hours labour @

Seems right in the ball-park to me, 3 hours is about right although a mechanic with a lot of experience on this type of car could have perhaps shaved half an hour off. Parts wise a belt is about

Its a family run garage that has been going for over 60 years so they must be doing something right

Thought i would check with the Fraud dealer in Telford on what they think the mileage should be for the Cambelt change

 

Mine is a 2006 Mkll 1.9TDI 115BHP

 

After much checking she confirmed the belt needs to be changed every 60,000 miles or 5 years

I've got the early Mk2 Galaxy TDi (Yr 2000), with the 40,000 mile change interval.

I did the last cambelt change myself, and it now needs doing again.

Anyone know if you can use uprated parts from the 2003 car with 60,000 change interval?

And if so, are they available from factors. Eg GSF?

Just wondered if anyone knew the answer to whether or not the uprated (60,000 mile) parts can be fitted to the older MkII. Mine is a 2000.

I need to do the work soon.

I tried, but couldn't get a straight answer, so I stuck with 40,000 miles - as I do it myself, the cost is not really an issue, and it only takes around 2 - 3 hours, so it really isn't worth the risk.

As the engines are the same and the parts are the same, I don't see why not.
